First impressions are always important, and that’s especially true when it comes to job interviews. Whether you’re looking to be a CEO or are just entering the working world, we’ve compiled a few tips to make sure your first meeting with your dream company isn’t your last.
Your outfit
Just because dress codes vary drastically these days, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still dress professionally. The cliché, “dress for success”, is still true, so err on the conservative side with a pants or skirt suit. Once you have the job you can see what others wear and then dress accordingly.
Hair and makeup
Fun fact: Women who wear makeup earn more money (that’s according to a study done by the American Economic Review). Now, that doesn’t mean you need to pile it on. In fact, in this case, less is more. Keep it clean and simple. Dab some concealer to cover up any blemishes or under-eye circles, swipe on a little blush and add a few coats of mascara. If you want to kick it up a notch, add some color to your lips. As for hair, keep it neat. If you have a unique style, tone it down. And if you have long hair that you tend to play with, pull it back.
Grooming
First, skip the perfume. Some people can be sensitive or allergic to scents and you don’t want to offend them right off the bat. Second, make sure your nails are clean and filed - especially if you tend to use your hands when talking. Finally, pop a breath mint a few minutes before you head in. It might sound silly, but you can’t ever go wrong with fresh breath.
So what are you waiting for? Get out there and start interviewing!
