A Few Rules for the Tribal/Aztec Trend

Tribal quest…

Fashion may always be looking out for the “next black,” but sometimes a girl needs a little more pizzazz. Polka dots and stripes work nicely, but the most sophisticated patterns out there are tribal. The Aztec trend is strong this season and showing up in everything from outerwear to accessories. And tribal doesn’t limit us to African prints. This season we are also seeing Mexican and Incan brights. Though the look is intense, tribal is actually quite easy to wear. Take a page from our stylebook with the tips below.

A Little Goes A Long Way

The Aztec look is bold and works well worn alone or with one other, brightly colored solid. Please avoid appearing like a Halloween costume by staying clear of fringe and turquoise, etc.

Hearty or Party

Try for a tribal feel in one of two ways: rustic or dressy. A rustic look takes new tribal leggings or tights and pairs them with hearty combat or Sherpa boots. Add in a bit of military to an army green-based tribal print and you have a mixed match made in heaven. Or, make tribal more elegant by adding bright jewelry and stiletto sandals. You can even take a bright tribal mini to the center of attention when paired with thigh high boots and a simple top and infinity scarf.

Texturize

Aztec prints work well in colder months because they lend themselves well to textured furs and sweater materials. As outwear, a tribal jacket will mix beautifully with scarves. With its nod to the poncho, there’s nothing comfier than a tribal sweater atop jeans and a tee. Add in a cool, new pair of Aztec sneakers and you’ll hear the drums beating.

Make your own way while still feeling a part of the tribe!
