This week at the movies—Baddie Hugh Jackman and an emo robot battle; Vince Vaughn and Dave Franco battle the competition on a business trip.
Chappie
I, Robot, but without the creepy animation (and a dash of Robocop), Chappie is very much the same premise. A bunch of robots created for the police have been discontinued, but one was programmed to feel real emotions. Though his creators all know he’s safe and kind, the powers that be (in this case, Sigourney Weaver) want him destroyed. Directed by Neill Blomkamp (of District 9), and also stars Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel, and the band Die Antwoord.
Perfect For: You like your sci-fi Dystopian.
What the Critics Say: So far the reviews come from across the pond. They are mixed to positive. Writes Time Out London: “With its stunning urban landscapes, trash-talking titanium hero and mulleted, God-bothering bad guy (Hugh Jackman, never better), this is hugely entertaining.” But, says the Hollywood Reporter: “After the surprise and promise of District 9, this represents a further downward step for director Neill Blomkamp in the wake of the highly uneven Elysium.”
Our Take: Blomkamp’s films are pretty fresh in the stale world of Hollywood. Would go for sure.

Unfinished Business
Vince Vaughn stars as the boss of his own, small company, number of employees: two. One is way too young (Dave Franco, the younger Franco), and the other is too old (Tom Wilkinson), but they are going to try and score a new client in Europe. The ragtag trio embarks on the business trip—where everything very quickly goes awry.
Perfect For: You like raunchy, slapstick comedy. (R-rated, so not for children).
What the Critics Say: Definition of mediocre. Writes the Daily Telegraph: “Unfinished Business certainly lives up to the promise of its title: the film looks as though it needs another six months' work.”
Our Take: Nope.
