Bright Ideas: Adding Color into Your Winter Wardrobe

Winter wow!

Winter means sweaters, jeans, tights and a lot less skin. But we are left to wonder why drab, dark colors tend to also seem to come with the season. There’s certainly nothing wrong with a great black or gray outfit, and army green is quite “of the moment,” but the best way to add cheer to a winter day is with bright pops of color. This season, stores are literally alight with pinks, oranges and mint greens. Here are our favorite ways to wear them.

For the Color Shy:

Try a neutral. Beige, white or light blue are great ways to set off the darker colors in your winter wardrobe. Try a crisp, white shirt tucked into darker pants with boots or a sky blue scarf around your neck to light up your face.

Winter Color 1

Not Too Much:

It isn’t spring so, it’s true, too much bright color can be overwhelming. Start small; perhaps a striking pair of sunglasses, a clutch or even a super saturated lip stain.

Winter Color 2

Stay “In” While Staying In Control:

The hit colors of the season are one thing, but with brights, it’s all about your skin tone. Find something that works well with your complexion. Darker skin tones can pull off this winter’s oranges, yellows and bright blues, while lighter complexions should opt for pastels, no matter what the runways say.

Winter Color 3

Accessorize and Flow:

Accessories such as shoes, scarves, gloves, jewelry and bags are the easiest way to add color this winter, but make sure to add another piece that complements the outfit so one pop of color doesn’t appear out of place.

Winter Color 5

And the best advice of all? Experiment! Go brightly where you’ve never gone before during the winter months and see what works best for you.
